Martinus Geleynse

Martinus Geleynse is a proud FirstOntario member, a current first-term FCU board member, and a local small business owner. Martinus is the Creative Director and founder of Make Media Ltd., a communications agency he has owned for 10 years. He is also the former editor and publisher of urbanicity Magazine, a publication he operated for six years until selling it in 2017.

Martinus spent three years as the host of Cable 14’s “urbanicityTV”, a television show that celebrated the small businesses and cultural scene of Hamilton. From 2008-2014, he operated the Hamilton 24-Hour Film Festival, and in 2014, he launched “Novemburger”, an annual burger festival that has raised over $50,000 for the local United Way.

As a passion project, Martinus also operates a series of educational tours that bring busloads of guests to Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Detroit and Cleveland to explore the manufacturing heritage and urban renewal stories of the American rustbelt.

Martinus is currently on the board of FirstOntario Credit Union, and serves on the Strategic Oversight Committee as well as the Governance Committee. While he is only in his first term, he has already completed several courses toward his Credit Union Director’s designation. Martinus has served as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Hamilton Media Arts Centre, on the Cinema Hamilton and Film committees at the Art Gallery of Hamilton, on the Board of Directors of the Hamilton Children’s Choir, and as a director for WCC 26. In 2014, Martinus served as Co-Chair and Communications Director for the successful election campaign of Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger.

Martinus is a past winner of the annual FirstOntario1Awards for small business and has been recognized by BusinessLink as one of Hamilton-Burlington’s Top 40 Under 40.

He looks forward to continuing to serve the growing membership of FirstOntario Credit Union.
