Student Nutrition Program

FirstOntario Credit Union believes in supporting youth and giving back to our communities in a way that makes a positive, long-lasting impact. That’s why we’ve committed to supporting student nutrition programs in all of the regions that FirstOntario operates in with donations totalling $750,000 since 2015.

Together with the employee volunteer program Blue Wave, FirstOntario and its’ Board of Directors are excited to work with Hamilton’s Haldimand Norfolk REACH and be part of this important program. Student Nutrition Programs ensure children receive a good start to their day and help to develop long lasting healthly lifestyle habits. These programs provide school aged students, of all socioeconomic levels, with the proper nutrition they need to learn and fully participate in school. Programs can include breakfast, an early morning meal, lunch and/or snacks. Student Nutrition Programs have shown to improve attendance, increase students’ participation in the classroom and in physical education programs, promote healthy eating habits, improve food-related skills and knowledge, and improve students’ social skills.

Local schools and programs apply to their local community agency for funds to support their program. Programs can be based in a school or part of a before and after school youth program.
Working through REACH, a not for profit agency that provides multiple services to children and families through programs, education and community development, they coordinate the distribution of funds to local community agencies in all the regions that FirstOntario operates in.
