Education Awards

FirstOntario truly cares about improving the lives of our Members and the communities we serve. One of the ways we help is by supporting youth in their pursuit of learning opportunities and higher education.

FirstOntario is committed to helping youth achieve more than just their financial goals. When you make the decision to continue with post-secondary education, your studies, not your finances, should be your first priority. FirstOntario’s Student Education Awards are designed to assist students who are pursuing education beyond high school, because we understand the financial challenges that come with college and university.

“Post-secondary education comes with many costs that I have learned about in my first year alone. Whether it be paying for tuition, residence, books, tutors, or transportation, there were many surprise expenses that I was not prepared for. The $1,500 scholarship offered to me by FirstOntario was very helpful in covering some of these expenses.”

Matthew VanLeeuwen, 2016 Education Award recipient

FirstOntario offers eight education awards annually, valued at $1,500 each, for youth who exemplify leadership qualities and the drive to make our communities a better place to live. Applicants are assessed on a variety of criteria including leadership skills, volunteer activities, educational goals and their contribution to their local community. Successful recipients are presented the award as a deposit to a FirstOntario chequing account when they become a Member of FirstOntario, if they aren’t already.
