Ron Fleet

I have been a member of our Credit Union for over 47 years. I have also had the privilege of serving on the board of Directors for FirstOntario Credit Union for 23 of those years. As result of term limit I stepped down for one year in 2017.

During my 23 years serving as one of your Directors, I have been involved with several committees. These committees include Audit, Governance, Elections and on the Executive Committee as Corporate Secretary. I am a graduate of the Director Achievement Program along with extensive knowledge of the Credit Union’s By-Laws and the legislation governing Credit Unions in Ontario. There are a number of competencies required by the Deposit Insurance Corporation of Ontario (DICO) of which I have acquired. I am currently retired and my work experience includes managing a Non Profit Housing project in the City of Hamilton. In this role I was responsible for all the finances and submitting annual reports to the City. Prior to that I was the elected Financial Secretary for a large union where I was responsible for all the accounts as well as completing quarterly and annual financial audits.

or the past 75 years, our Credit Union has served our community well and has grown to over 115,000 members being served by 32 locations in Southern Ontario. At FirstOntario we offer a differentiated service to our members as compared to the banks. I believe in the Credit Union system wholeheartedly and I have the time and the knowledge to commit myself to this role. I would consider it a privilege to be elected to your Board of Directors.
