Your FirstOntario Member Card is the card that puts your money at your fingertips - no matter where you are. With your Member Card and your PIN, you can easily make direct payments for purchases in stores and access your accounts at banking machines. You can also manage your finances through online and telephone banking.

THE EXCHANGE® Network

FirstOntario is happy to now be a part of THE EXCHANGE® Network. Members now have surcharge free access to over 2,400 banking machine locations across Canada, and over 245,000 across the U.S.A. 

 

Just look for THE EXCHANGE® logo on banking machines at participating banks and credit unions across Canada, and you can do the following transactions without paying additional surcharges:

 

• Deposit cheques and cash
• Transfer funds between accounts
• Withdraw cash
• Check account balance
  

Surcharge fees are typically $1.50 to $2.00 and are charged when you are not using a FirstOntario Credit Union banking machine.  Now, you'll never pay this fee when you use a bank or credit union that's THE EXCHANGE® NETWORK. Members can also have access to their accounts (without a surcharge, depending on the State) when traveling in the U.S.A. at any banking machine where THE EXCHANGE® logo is displayed.

Use your MemberCard in the U.S.

Now you can use your Member Card Debit Card wherever you see the ACCEL® logo. In the United States, the ACCEL network works the same way for debit card purchases as they do at home.

 Simply swipe your Member Card Debit Card through the retailer's terminal and enter your personal PIN number to verify the transaction. It's that easy! As an added value when you are travelling in the US, a cash back option is also available at many participating retailers.

FirstOntario now has access to a new surcharge free banking machine network in the USA called No SUR! This new network compliments the existing 245,000+ EXCHANGE® network banking machines in the USA. 

The new No SUR! network has over 900 surcharge free banking machines that are identified with the No SUR! logo. Members are guaranteed that their banking machine withdrawals are surcharge free.

Deposits in banking machines

Debit card fraud comes in many different forms including banking machine deposit fraud and we make every effort to protect you from these types of fraudulent acts.

To protect you better, FirstOntario holds deposits made at banking machines (at FirstOntario or through THE EXCHANGE® Network) until the deposit has been verified.

When depositing at a banking machine, you will be prompted with a message that your “deposit will be held” before proceeding. A cash back option has been added to your personal debit card for withdrawals made on same-day deposits. If you already have available funds in your account or available funds through your line of credit, you can continue to withdraw up to your daily maximum. All other card limits have not changed.

Lost or stolen Member Cards

Please call us immediately at 1-800-616-8878 to report a lost or stolen card.

Member Card safety - Protect your PIN

Remember to keep your PIN confidential. It’s your electronic signature and gives you access to your accounts and banking information.

1. Never lend your Member Card to anyone - not even members of your family.
2. Do not share your PIN informations with anyone.
3. Memorize your PIN. Don't write it down or keep it in your wallet.
4. When choosing your PIN, avoid obvious choices like birthdays etc.
5. Don't let your Member card out of sight when making transactions.
6. Only pay by debit when you feel comfortable.
7. Use your body or hand to block your PIN during a transaction.
8. Keep your transaction record (receipt) for reference.
9. If your Member Card is lost, stolen or retained by a banking machine, contact FirstOntario immediately.
10. Report any debit theft to the police and financial institution.
